Edina Girls Athletic Association - Recreational Sports for Girls in Edina

The purpose of the EGAA is to develop a varied athletic program for girls living within the geographic boundaries of the City of Edina, or attending a school in the City of Edina.

CONDUCT POLICY

In keeping with the spirit of the mission statement of the Edina Girls Athletic Association, it is the policy that any unsportsmanlike, disruptive, intimidating behavior or language by any player, coach, official, or spectator WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Violation of the Conduct Policy may result in Board reprimand, loss of playing or coaching time, forfeiture of game or expulsion from a team, as determined by the EGAA Executive Committee.

Also we would like to remind the girls that absolutely NO SODA OR GUM OR FOOD IS ALLOWED IN GYMS OR SCHOOL HALLWAYS.  The use of our school facilities is a privilege we must respect.  Players may bring water bottles to practices and games.

MUTUAL REQUEST POLICY

EGAA does honor mutual requests whenever possible. A mutual request is only when Player A requests Player B and Player B requests Player A.

* If more than one name is submitted as a mutual request, it negates the request. When many players string names together, that also negates the request. We do try to balance the teams as best as we can.

* If coaches request to coach together, their daughters will be considered mutual requests, as well. If we place coaches together, each daughter is entitled to a mutual request of her own.

* We also try to balance each team with even numbers from each grade level playing in the same league (ie. 6th/7th grade league), as well as a balance from each school (i.e.. not a whole team from Countryside Elementary).

* Mutual requests may not be honored for late registrations. Team selections are made when registration is complete and late registrations are added onto teams based on availability only.

GRADE PLACEMENT POLICY

EGAA’s mission is for all girls to play in a non-competitive, learning environment, with emphasis placed on socialization skills and sportsmanship. EGAA team placements will be made with the participant playing in the grade level that she is enrolled in school. There will be no “playing up” for a more competitive experience.

T-SHIRT POLICY

Participants in EGAA sports receive T-shirts to wear as their uniform. Basketball and Volleyball t-shirts will have the players names imprinted. It helps the coaches, the girls and the parents learn names and follow the action. Our registration fee covers the cost of imprinting the names. We will have the player’s name printed as written on the registration (no nicknames). T-shirts are not to be altered in any way by the players.

REFEREE POLICY

EGAA hires professional referees for our sports. We have been very fortunate to have some great officiating at our games and we want to make sure we continue to offer them support for the work they do.

REFUND POLICY

The Sports Director must receive a written request for a refund before the first scheduled team meeting. If uniforms have been ordered, the fee shall be deducted from the refund. After the first team meeting, refunds shall be granted for medical reasons ONLY and the cost of the uniform shall be deducted. The on-line processing fee will be deducted from all refunds.

COACH SELECTION PROCESS

When selecting coaches for EGAA teams, the sports committees will choose coaches in the following order: parents of EGAA players, adult non-parents and students. Student coaches will be chosen based on years of experience in the sport, both coaching and playing, and must have a letter of reference. Older students will be given preference over younger students.

GAME CANCELLATION POLICY

It is the policy of the Park and Recreation Department that all EGAA games and related activities will be cancelled when Edina Public Schools are cancelled due to extreme weather.

Call the Park and Rec Hotline at 952-836-0368 for all information.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

All grievances pertaining to an EGAA sport shall be brought forward to the Sports Director, then to the Executive Committee, and finally before the EGAA Board. If after action by the EGAA Board, the aggrieved party is not satisfied, the grievance will be referred to the Edina Park and Recreation staff.
